Maurice Carver, known as “The Silver Fox,” a 41-year-old man from Austin, has been accused of murder in connection with the death of James C. Brock, 32. The incident occurred during an argument at Carver’s house, where Brock was shot multiple times. Carver claimed that, in self-defense, he took a .357 Magnum revolver from a drawer under the kitchen sink and shot Brock.

The altercation took place in the kitchen of Carver’s residence around 3 p.m. on Sunday. According to authorities, Brock was hit by bullets in the chest, abdomen, right arm, and back. Carver turned himself in to the sheriff’s deputies the same day but was quickly released on bail.

Carver stated that Brock, an acquaintance, arrived at his house and that the argument escalated to the point where Brock pulled out a gun. Carver claimed that, in self-defense, he took a .357 Magnum revolver from a drawer under the kitchen sink and shot Brock.

The key testimony for the state came from Helen Madge Blake, who stated that Brock had taken Carver to his house in San Antonio before the shooting. According to Blake, Brock told Carver, “Alright, this is it,” before the shooting began.
